When Making Art Starts to Feel Like Pressure

Hi friend,

In my last note, I shared my mantra for the year, home.

That word came from noticing something important in my own creative life.

Somewhere along the way, my art started to feel a little loaded.

Not all the time.
But enough that I noticed it.

Pressure to make something “good.”
Pressure to stay consistent.
Pressure to justify the time.

And when art starts to feel like a test instead of a place to land, the joy quietly drains out of it.

So this year, instead of asking:

“How do I get better at art?”

I’m asking:

“How do I make my relationship with art kinder?”

For me, that looks like
• smaller sessions
• less judgment
• more curiosity
• and coming back when I can instead of keeping score.

Because I don’t want art to live on a to do list.

I want it to live in my real life.

And I’m guessing you might feel something similar.

Most creative women I know never stopped loving art.

They just stopped wanting to feel pressured by it.

That’s a big part of why I’m creating The Practice.

It’s not about producing more.

It’s about having a steadier, friendlier relationship with creativity.

I’ll share more soon.

For now, I am curious about you who make art or have never made art.

Has making art ever started to feel like pressure for you?

You’re not alone if it has.

With care,
Lynn

There's something I want you to know more than anything else. You didn't lose it. The creativity you're looking for didn't leave. The part of you that used to make things. The part that felt most like yourself when you had paint on your hands. Or words on a page. Or something half-finished on the table. She didn't go anywhere. You just got very far from her. And there's a difference. Lost means gone. Far means there's a way back. I was in Scotland recently. Standing in the middle of all that...

I recorded a short video walking through how The Practice actually works. I made this first for the women who have already joined, so they could feel grounded and supported as we begin. As I was recording it, I realized it would be helpful to share it with you too. This isn’t a highlight reel. It’s the real rhythm of the program and how it holds you when life gets busy or messy. In the video, I share how the pacing works, what happens if you miss time, and how support shows up You don’t need...

Quick heads up because I don’t want you to miss it. Early registration price for The Practice ends tonight at midnight. After that, the price flips to $197.
